How to Split PDF Files
Splitting a PDF lets you extract only the pages you need — without editing software. This PDF splitter runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib, so your documents stay private on your device.
Step 1: Upload Your PDF
Click "Choose PDF File" or drag a PDF onto the drop zone. The tool loads the file in memory and shows you all pages as numbered thumbnails. The original file is not modified.
Step 2: Select Pages
Click individual page thumbnails to select or deselect them. Use "Select All" to grab every page, or type a range like 1,3,5-8 to select specific pages and click Apply. The selection count updates in real time.
Step 3: Download
Choose one of two download modes. "Download Selected as PDF" creates a single PDF containing just your chosen pages — useful for extracting a chapter or page range. "Split All Pages Individually" downloads each page as a separate file named page-1.pdf, page-2.pdf, etc. — useful when you need every page as its own file.
Common Use Cases
Extract a single-page invoice from a multi-invoice PDF. Separate a scanned book into individual pages. Pull out the signature page from a contract. Remove pages before sharing a document (see also: PDF Page Remover). Split a quarterly report into monthly chapters.
FAQ
Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No — all splitting happens in your browser using JavaScript. Your files are never sent anywhere. When you close the tab, everything is cleared from memory.
Can I extract just a few pages instead of splitting all pages?
Yes — select specific page checkboxes or enter a range like '1,3,5-8' to extract only those pages. The 'Download Selected Pages' button creates a single PDF with just the pages you chose.
What does 'Split All Pages' do?
It creates one separate PDF file for each page in the document and downloads them one by one. A 10-page document produces 10 individual PDF files named page-1.pdf, page-2.pdf, etc.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
No — password-protected PDFs cannot be loaded in the browser. Remove the password with a PDF unlock tool first, then split.
Is there a page limit for splitting?
There's no hard limit, but very large PDFs (hundreds of pages, 50MB+) may be slow to process in the browser. For best performance, keep files under 50MB.
