How to Use the Graph Paper Generator

The graph paper generator creates customizable printable grid paper in your browser. No software needed — adjust the settings and print or download in seconds.

Step 1: Choose Your Paper Size

Select US Letter (8.5" × 11") for North American printers, A4 (210mm × 297mm) for international use, or Legal (8.5" × 14") for larger drawings. The canvas updates immediately to reflect your selection.

Step 2: Set the Grid Spacing

Use the spacing slider to set how far apart the grid lines are. For standard math graph paper, use 5mm (0.2"). For engineering drawings, 6.35mm (0.25") is common. Fine grids at 2-3mm work well for detailed technical drawings.

Step 3: Customize Colors and Line Width

Click the color picker to change the grid color. Light gray (#cccccc) is standard for most uses — it prints clearly without overpowering your content. Increase line width for bold grids or reduce it for faint background guidelines.

Step 4: Download or Print

Click "Download PNG" to save the grid as an image file — useful for importing into design software or editing tools. Click "Print PDF" to open your browser's print dialog. Set margins to "None" in the print dialog to get a full-page grid that matches your paper exactly.

Common Uses for Graph Paper

Graph paper is used across many fields: students use it for math and science homework, architects sketch floor plans on it, engineers plot data and technical drawings, and artists use it for pixel art and isometric designs. Having a generator means you always have fresh, properly sized paper ready when you need it.

FAQ

Is this graph paper generator free?

Yes, completely free with no signup required. Generate and download unlimited graph paper directly in your browser.

Is my data private?

Yes, everything runs locally in your browser. No data is uploaded or transmitted to any server.

What grid spacing should I use for standard graph paper?

Standard graph paper uses 5mm (about 0.2 inches) grid spacing. Engineering paper often uses 1/4 inch (6.35mm) spacing. For finer detail, try 2mm or 2.5mm grids.

Can I print graph paper on A4 and US Letter?

Yes, the generator supports A4, US Letter, and Legal paper sizes. Select your paper size before printing to ensure the grid fills the page correctly.

How do I save graph paper as a PDF?

Click 'Print PDF' and choose 'Save as PDF' in your browser's print dialog. Set margins to 'None' for a borderless grid that fills the whole page.

What's the difference between graph paper and grid paper?

They're the same thing — evenly spaced horizontal and vertical lines forming a square grid. 'Graph paper' is the common term in academic settings, while 'grid paper' is more general. Both are used for math, drawing, and note-taking.
