The foosball scoring reference is a quick-access guide to official foosball rules, illegal moves, and tournament formats from ITSF and World Table Soccer. Use it to settle disputes or prep for competitive play.

Scoring Rules

GOALBall enters opponent's goal — 1 point, regardless of which team last touched it (own goals count).
NO GOALBall entered goal after an illegal spin shot — point does not count, penalty may apply.
WINFirst to 5 goals wins the game. Match: best of 3 or best of 5 games (tournament dependent).

Illegal Moves (Violations)

Spinning — rotating rod 360° or more before/after contact. Goal disallowed + possession to opponent.
Jarring — hitting table with rods to move ball unfairly. Warning on first offense.
Distracting — any action intended to distract opponent during their shot.
Time violations — ball must be passed from 5-bar within 10 seconds, shot within 15 seconds on 3-bar.

Tournament Formats

ITSF World Cup: Double elimination. Best of 5 games (first to 5 goals each). Certified tables required (Bonzini, Tornado, Tecball, Roberto Sport, Garlando).
World Table Soccer: Single and double elimination events. Same scoring rules as ITSF. Popular in North America on Tornado tables.
Recreational: First to 5 or 10 goals. Often played without strict time rules. Best of 3 or single-game format.
Handicap: Weaker team plays to higher score (e.g., 7 vs 5 goals). Skill matchups use 2-goal handicap as baseline.
