Miniature Army Points Calculator

Build your Warhammer 40K or Age of Sigmar army list and track points, unit count, and limit usage in real time

A miniature army points calculator helps Warhammer hobbyists build legal army lists within the point limits set by their game size. Whether you're playing a small Combat Patrol at 500 pts or a full Strike Force at 2,000 pts, tracking individual unit costs, quantities, and upgrades manually is error-prone. Use this tool to build and validate your 40K or Age of Sigmar list before your game.

How to Use the Miniature Army Points Calculator

Building a legal Warhammer army list within your chosen point limit is the foundation of competitive and casual tabletop play. Whether you're planning a 500-point Combat Patrol skirmish or a full 2,000-point Strike Force, this miniature army points calculator tracks every unit, upgrade, and quantity in real time so you never exceed your limit on game night.

Step 1: Choose your game system and point limit

Start by selecting either Warhammer 40K or Age of Sigmar from the game system toggle. Then pick your game size from the preset dropdown — Combat Patrol (500 pts), Incursion (1,000 pts), Strike Force (2,000 pts), or Onslaught (3,000 pts) for 40K; or the equivalent AoS formats. If your game uses a non-standard point limit, choose "Custom" and enter any value.

Step 2: Add units to your list

Click "Add Unit" to insert a new unit row. Enter the unit name (e.g., "Intercessors"), the base point cost per unit, and the quantity. The subtotal is calculated automatically. For detachments or combined squads, add each separately so you can track them individually on the board.

Step 3: Add upgrades and wargear

Expand any unit row to add upgrade lines. Each upgrade has its own name (e.g., "Plasma Pistol") and point cost. Upgrade costs are added to the unit's subtotal. Common upgrades to track include wargear options, special weapons, character upgrades, and transport costs if you are carrying units inside vehicles.

Step 4: Monitor the progress bar

The progress bar turns green when under limit, amber when approaching the limit (above 90%), and red when you exceed it. The four stats cards show your total points, remaining headroom, number of unit entries, and percentage of your limit used. If you exceed the limit, a warning banner shows exactly how many points over you are.

Step 5: Print your army list

Once your list is complete, the Army List Summary section provides a clean, printable breakdown of every unit and its point cost. Click "Print List" or use your browser's print function. The progress bar, buttons, and UI chrome are hidden when printing, leaving only a clean army summary suitable for handing to your opponent or a tournament organizer.

Tips for competitive list building

Always leave 20–50 points of buffer in your list for last-minute model substitutions. Track upgrades accurately — a single plasma weapon upgrade across a squad of 10 models can swing your total by 100+ points. For matched play, double-check that your detachment choices and force organization comply with your game system's current rules, as point costs change with each new edition and FAQ.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this army points calculator free?

Yes, the miniature army points calculator is completely free with no limits. You can add as many units as you need and switch between game systems and point limits at any time. No account or signup required.

Is my army list data saved or shared?

No data is ever sent to a server. Everything runs locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your army list exists only in your current browser session and is cleared when you close the tab.

What point limits does this calculator support?

The calculator supports standard Warhammer 40K limits: Combat Patrol (500 pts), Incursion (1,000 pts), Strike Force (2,000 pts), and Onslaught (3,000 pts). For Age of Sigmar it supports Path to Glory (500 pts), Vanguard (1,000 pts), Pitched Battle (2,000 pts), and Grand Host (3,000 pts). A custom limit option lets you enter any point value.

How do I add upgrades to a unit?

Click the upgrade icon or expand button on any unit row to add upgrade line items. Each upgrade has its own name and point cost. Upgrade costs are added to the base unit cost and multiplied by the unit quantity, since upgrades typically apply per model or per unit.

Can I print my army list?

Yes — use your browser's built-in print function (Ctrl+P or Cmd+P) on the army list summary section. The results panel is designed to print cleanly without UI chrome.

Does the calculator support AoS and 40K simultaneously?

The game system toggle switches the point limit presets between 40K and AoS formats. You can only track one game system at a time, but switching the toggle simply changes the available presets — your unit list remains intact.

What does the percentage bar represent?

The progress bar shows what percentage of your selected point limit your current army uses. Green means you are under the limit, amber means you are near the limit (90%+), and red means you have exceeded the limit. The bar caps visually at 100% but still shows the true overrun in the text.
